Most keyword research tools work the exact same way, answer a keyword into a tool and get a list of suggestions. The problem with this approach is this. Everyone types the same exact keywords into these tools. No wonder most keywords are super competitive. That’s where see keywords comes in. It helps you sidestep this problem. Instead of pulling keywords out of thin air, you actually ask customers how they’d find you online. Then you use those keywords in a traditional keyword research tool. For example, let’s say that you run an online flower delivery e-commerce site. Well, you see keywords to create what’s called a scenario. Basically, you ask people how they would search for what you sell, then send that scenario to people. And if you’re like me, you’ll be surprised at the responses that you get. Finally, put the terms that you find into your favorite keyword tool and you’ll find some untapped keywords that your competitors don’t know about yet. Which leads us to our second free SEO tool separator. Now, it didn’t include separator on this list just because it has a name that kind of sounds like Terminator, although that didn’t hurt with that. Here’s how this tool works. As you probably know, the search results change dramatically depending on where you are. And the device that you’re using in this awesome tool helps to check out the search results across different locations and devices. All you need to do is specify your device and location and you’ll see exactly how the results will look for someone searching from that location, using that device. Pretty cool. And now it’s time for a third tool exploding topics. You probably already know that finding new trending keywords is an echo goldmine. And it’s simple math. If you target an old keyword, they’re going to be more a blog, post, articles, YouTube videos and content in general that you have to compete with. But when you target new keywords that are trending up, you get in early before the search results get super competitive. For example, a while back we wrote a post optimized around the keyword Mobile SEO back when that keyword was relatively new, even though that keyword didn’t have a ton of searches yet. We knew that Google had been rolling out updates that penalize sites that weren’t mobile optimized, which meant that searches for that keyword were primed to explode. And because I got in super early, we were able to carve out a top three ranking for this growing term, a ranking that we still hold to this day. The question is, how do you find these new trending terms? Well, you could use Google Trends, but the issue with Google Trends is that you already need to know what you’re looking for. In other words, Google Trends is great for confirming a trend on a key word that you already know about, but it’s not really helpful for coming up. With new trends and topics, enter exploding topics with exploding topics. You get a list of new trendy keywords presented to you on a silver platter. And the tool has a database of trending topics across several different industries, including health, fitness, marketing, fashion, consumer products and more. Moving right along. Our next free tool is called Elci Graph. You’ve probably heard of Alisi keywords before. They’re basically words and phrases that are closely related to your main keyword. And when you include these terms in your content, Google sees your content as comprehensive, which can give you a nice little rankings boost. For example, let’s say your target keyword is Star Wars. Elyssa keywords for Star Wars would be things like Luke Skywalker, Jedi, Princess Leia and the Millennium Falcon. So how do you find Alisi keywords? A very cool free tool called SIGGRAPH. Just enter your target keyword into the tool and you’ll get a list of Elyssa keywords that you can sprinkle into your content. Pretty cool with that. It’s time for tool number five to Buddy. To Buddy is a free chrome extension that helps you optimize your YouTube videos for SEO, for example. Let’s say that you want to use some of the same tags that another video is using. Well, you can use to Buddy to easily see those tags and use them in your video or let’s see, you’re looking for a keyword to optimize your video around. You can use to buddy to see the competition level on YouTube. First page for that keyword, which leads us to tool number six, word tracker scout. We’re a tracker scout takes kind of a unique approach to keyword research. Instead of entering a keyword into a tool, we’re tracker scans a page and finds keywords that show up over and over again. That way you can go over to one of your competitors pages and grab the keywords that they’re already using in their content. You can. Even sort the list of key words by opportunity, which are terms that have the best ratio of search, volume and competition, and now it’s time for tool number seven, the Google search console. No list of CEO tools would be complete without talking about search console. Why? Well, if you take a step back, search console is actually a pretty feature rich piece of software. And unlike almost every other tool in the market, the data that you get comes straight from Google. So, you know, it’s legit. For example, you can use the search console as a rack tracker to check your site’s ranking in the service. You can also use it to get a feel for your site’s back link profile. Now, this isn’t nearly as good as a paid tool like address, but it’s not terrible. Last but not least, you can see all the pages that your site has indexed in Google. And if you have any technical problems that’s holding your site back, which leads us to tool number eight, answer the public most keyword research tools, get their data from the same exact place, the Google keyword planner. And so the public is a little bit different. This tool focuses on questions that people ask on forums, Quora, Reddit blogs and on social media. And it turns those questions into awesome keywords. My favorite feature inside of answer the public is that they have a section dedicated to versus keywords. So why is this helpful in my experience versus keywords are great for SEO. That’s because versus keywords usually aren’t super competitive and the people that search for versus keywords tend to be pretty advanced, which means they’re usually close to buying something. For example, we recently published this post that compared to Rush, even though this keyword doesn’t get a ton of searches, the people that do search for this keyword are pretty advanced. Remember, these aren’t newbies that are looking up what SEO is or how it works. They’re comparing two different paid tools. And these are the exact type of people that we want to get in front of, which is why we published that versus Post. And like we said, versus keywords aren’t usually really competitive, which is why we was able to rank in the top three within a few weeks. And now it’s time for our last tool SEO Tool Number nine Animals Revive Animals Revive helps you find older content on your site that needs an update and upgrade or both. Before this tool came along, you had to manually find these pages in Google Analytics and it was a huge pain. But with this tool, you get a list of pages that need some TLC. It even shows you how many visitors you’re losing by not updating your old content. So before we end this video, we’ve got a quick bonus tool for you. Site liner, site liner is a free technical SEO tool that scans your site for SEO. Problems like blocked pages, messed up, redirects duplicate content and broken links. You can even drill down into each page on your site to see if the tool found any issues. When we first got started with small sites,, we had no idea what we were really doing great, So we started to search for things like how to get higher Google rankings and how to CEO our site. And despite following all the advice that we read, our traffic didn’t budge. It was really frustrating. We hate you, Google. Today, our site brings in hundreds of thousands of visits per month, mostly from Google and major media sites like Entrepeneur have called us in genius. Our secret. We developed a repeatable step by step process, and that’s exactly what we going to share with you right now. So let’s kick things off with step number one of this checklist. Set up essential tools and plug ins. Your first step is to make sure that you have three important tools set up and ready to go. The first tool that every site needs to have is the Google search console. This tool makes it super easy to track your sales performance in Google. It can also help you find technical problems that are holding you back. But most important of all, the search console shows you the exact keywords that you rank for and where you rank for them. And unlike third party tools, this data comes straight from Google. So, you know, it’s legit. The next tool you want to set up is Google Analytics. Google Analytics is the best way to see how people find and use your website. But that’s just scratching the surface with Google Analytics. You can do all sorts of cool stuff like five pages on your site that bring you traffic, identify the exact websites that send you traffic, your sites, bounce rate, page views and time on site and lots more. Finally, if your site runs on WordPress, you need to install the Yoast SEO plugin. Yoast is by far the most popular SEO plug in on the planet and for good reason. Yoast makes it super easy to make your WordPress site so friendly right out of the box. And now it’s time for the second step in this checklist, find keywords that customers search for. It’s no secret that keyword research is super important. The question is, how do you find keywords that your customers search for? Here are three simple techniques. First, find LongTail keywords with Google suggest to use this technique type of keyword into Google, but don’t press enter or the search button. Instead, take a look at the keywords that Google shows you. Google only suggest keywords that people are actually searching for. So when you see a Google search suggestion, you know that lots of people are searching for that term. Next, find keywords with the Google keyword planner. The Google keyword planner is Google’s official keyword research tool. This tool is technically designed for Google ads, but it’s still super useful for SEO keyword research to use it. Just enter a keyword and check out the suggestions that the tool spits out. That’s all there is to it. Finally, spy on online communities. Fortunately, this isn’t as creepy as it sounds. We talking about reading threads on sites like Reddit, Quora and online forums. All you need to do is head over to the community and find questions that crop up again and again. For example, we noticed that a big chunk of the threads on the paleo sub Reddit are all about paleo and desserts. So if you rent a site in the paleo niche terms like best paleo desserts and Keadle friendly desserts would be great keywords to target. With that, let’s jump into step number three keyword optimize your content. So you’ve installed all of the important SEO tools and you found a handful of keywords. Now it’s time to actually optimize your site. Here’s our first use, your keyword. In the first hundred words of your page, Google puts more weight on terms that show up at the top of your page. So make sure to use your keyword once here. For example, on this post from my site, you can see that we use the term SEO tools right off the bat. Next, use your keyword in the beginning of your title tag. Just like with your pages content, Google puts a little bit of extra weight on terms that show up early in your title tag. For example, our main keyword for this post is case study. And as you can see, the title tag starts off with that keyword. Third, use short URLs that include your target keyword. Why is this important? Well, a recent industry study found a correlation between short URLs and higher Google rankings. So you want to keep your URLs short and sweet. For example, this post on my site uses a super short URL and that short your role as one of the main reasons that this page ranks in. No one in Google for my target keyword SEO techniques last up, you want to use your keyword in an H1 two or three tag honestly, tags aren’t really that important, but every little bit helps, especially if you’re trying to target competitive keywords. For example, the Makua for this page is content marketing tools, so we use that exact keyword inside of an H to tag simple moving right along. Let’s quickly blast through the fourth step in this SEO checklist, find and fix technical issues and errors. The truth is, technical problems can tank your rankings. So if your site has technical problems, you want to find and fix them right away. Here’s how. First, make sure that your site is mobile friendly. As you might have heard, Google now runs on a mobile first index, which means if your site isn’t optimized for mobile devices, it won’t rank. What the heck? We can’t click anything. Fortunately, you can easily see your site’s mobile friendliness with the Google mobile friendly test just popping a page from your site. And Google will tell you whether or not your page is mobile friendly. Next, I’d crawl errors. A crawl just means that Google is having trouble indexing all the content on your site. And if they can’t index your page, it’s not going to rank. You can easily find Krul errors in the Google search console using the coverage report. Finally, improve your site’s page speed. Your site’s loading speed is a confirmed ranking factor. Now, to be clear, in our experience, page loading speed isn’t going to make or break your rankings. But in general, the faster your site loads, the better to evaluate your sites. Loading speed, check out Google’s page speed insights and Web page test dog. Both tools give you a benchmark for how quickly your site loads. They also hook you up with recommendations to help you speed things up. Nice. And now it’s time for a next step. Create content designed to rank and Google. There’s no denying it. If you want to rank and Google, you need to publish great content. But what is great content exactly? It’s content. That’s great. In my mind. Great content is content that actually ranks in Google. And now we going to show you exactly how to create the type of content that ranks on the first page of Google. First, create awesome content with the skyscraper technique. The skyscraper technique is a three step formula for creating amazing content. In fact, we use this technique to double our search engine traffic in two weeks. Here’s the three step process. First, find a piece of content in your industry that’s popular. Next, create something even better and finally promote that content. For example, last year we noticed that lots of people are writing about SEO for e-commerce, so top digital marketing agency decided to take what was out there and make something even better. Specifically, we spent twenty plus hours on an eight thousand word post called E Commerce SEO, the definitive guide. We promoted this post on social media and using email outreach and this three step process brought in a massive spike in traffic. It also helped me crack the top three results for my target keyword e commerce CEO. Second, break your content down into chunks because here’s the truth. No one, and we mean no one likes reading giant walls of text like this. That’s why we always break things down into chunks, because it makes my content super easy to read and skin and because my content is easy to read. My bounce rate, a key Google Rakhi factor is super low. More on that later. Next, make sure to cover everything there is to know about your topic. When we recently analyzed over a million Google search results, one thing was clear content that covers an entire topic in depth ranks above content that only covers part of a topic. For example, remember that e commerce guide we mentioned earlier? Well, that ultimate guide could have been a lame blog post like five ways to get high rankings for your e-commerce site. But we decided to create something that covered everything there is to know about optimizing e-commerce sites, which helped our page hit the first page of Google in record time. Besides make your content in depth, you also want to use lots of multimedia on your page. I’m talking about stuff like images, poles, visual content, videos, charts and infographics. For example, we use lots of screenshots, visuals and videos in pretty much every post. Finally, you want to double down on content formats that are working best right now. We recently teamed up with Buzz Sumo to analyze almost one billion blog posts. So what did we find? Well, there was some good news and some bad news. Let’s get the bad news out of the way. The bad. News is that most content is completely ignored, in fact, we found that ninety four percent of all published content gets zero external links. That’s right, zero. Now for the good news. There are certain content formats that attract more back links than others. We found that. Why posts what posts and infographics get significantly more back links than other content formats. For example, this why post has been linked to over fifty thousand times. Obviously you can’t just publish a Y post or an info graphic and expect the links to roll in for our data shows that sticking to these three content formats can increase the odds that people link to your stuff. Speaking of links, it’s time for the last step. In this checklist, build links to your website. So are back links still important for you? Heck yeah. In fact, a recent study by Stone Temple Consulting found that back links are still one of Google’s most important ranking factors. The bottom line, if you’re serious about ranking in Google, you need back links. And let me walk you through a handful of link building strategies that are working great right now. First up, build back links using link roundups. Link roundups are one of my all time favorite ways to get back links. Why? Because the entire point of a roundup is to link to amazing content. So if you publish something amazing on your site, there’s a good chance that you could get a link from around it. For example, here’s a roundup. In the marketing space, they link to the best content about SEO and content marketing that came out over the last week or so. Lucky for me, we had recently published a giant guide to SEO and because my post was a good fit for their roundup, they happily link to me. Next, build links using strategic guest posting. So why do we say strategic? Yes, posting and not just guess posting. It’s not to sound smart. That’s because guess posting can work, but you need to be strategic about it. And if you do get posting the wrong way, your site can get slapped with a Google penalty. So how do you do guess posting the right way, the right way is to publish your guest post on a respected site in your niche. The wrong way is to publish guest posts on any website that has a right for us page, even if the site has nothing to do with yours. A good rule of thumb that we follow is to only guest post on sites that are going to send me target of traffic and related to my site. For example, here’s a guest post that we published on the Buffer blog. Buffer’s blog focuses more on social media and my site is about SEO. But those two topics are related enough. If I publish the same post on a site about cute cats, that would look shady to Google. Anyway, we got a solid back link from my post and it brought in a decent chunk of targeted traffic to my site. The next strategy we want to show you is to go on podcasts as a guest. This is one of the most underrated link building techniques on the planet. Just like with a guest post, you get a nice contextual link from your podcast appearance. But unlike a guest post, there is much less legwork. You don’t need to pitch topics or work with an editor. Just schedule your interview and show up and provide value. That’s it, because the strategy is so easy. We’ve actually appeared on over 70 podcast episodes over the last few years. Last year, if we have the age old strategy of mentioning influencers in your content, this process couldn’t be any simpler. First, mention influential bloggers in your post and then let them know about it. Seriously, that’s it. For example, a while back we published this giant list of SEO tools. Now we could have published this post and hoped and prayed that people actually see it. So I decided to be proactive. So we reached out to each person to let them know that we mentioned them. And as you can see, most of the people that we reached out to were happy to share my post. Now, before we close out this video, it’s time for a quick bonus step tap into advanced SEO techniques and strategies. At this point, you’ve got the basics down. So let me walk you through a handful of advanced SEO tips and strategies that are working really well right now. Our first advanced SEO tip is to delete what we call zombie pages. Zombie pages are pages on your site that don’t bring in any traffic. And as it turns out, Google hate sites with lots of zombie pages. In fact, a Google employee recently stated that they prefer to rank sites that have a small number of high quality pages over those that are bloated with lots of pages that don’t provide any value. That’s why I make sure that every page on my site is awesome. In fact, Mexico generates over three hundred thousand visitors per month and today I’ve only published around 70 total. Blog posts. How is this possible? It’s because when it comes to content, we focus a hundred percent on quality, not quantity. To be clear, you don’t want to start deleting pages like a crazy person. This is a process you want to do slow and carefully. So use Google Analytics to find a handful of pages that don’t generate any traffic, then delete them or redirect them to another related page. Wait a week or two to see how it goes. Then over the next few months, slowly delete more and more zombie pages. For example, the team at Proven Dotcom noticed that they had almost fifty thousand pages indexed way more than they thought. As it turned out, a lot of these extra pages were Zombi pages that didn’t provide any value, so they deleted them. And thanks to this and a few other improvements they made, Previn’s organic traffic significantly increased. Our next advanced tip is to boost your organic click theory. As you might have heard, Google pays very close attention to how many people click on your site in the search results. If people skip over your site and click on the other results, your rankings can drop like a stone. But if lots of people click on your result, Google considers your page a great result for that keyword and you’ll get a rankings boost. In fact, a Google document states that when you click on a link and Google search, Google considers your click when ranking that search results. So how do you improve your organic click through rate? Scan the first page search results for your target keyword. And imagine what someone searching for that keyword would want to click on. Then optimize your title tag and description to match what a searcher wants to see. For example, if you search for Video SEO, you’ll notice that most of the results are guides and tutorials. In other words, people that search for this keyword don’t want a handful of tips. They want a complete guide. And to show people that my result was the thorough guide, I made sure to include the word guide in my title and description. The last advanced SEO tip we have for you is to keep your content up to date. Back in the day, we published a new post and never think about it again. And as time went on, my content got really outdated. We had old screenshots, outdated strategies and overall content that just looked kind of dated so early last year I started a huge project. Go back and update every single post on my site. Like I said earlier, we only have about 70 posts, but that’s still a lot of content to go through and update. Fortunately, I didn’t need to update all 70. We only had to up to about 20 posts. So how did it go? Well, after we’d update a post, we had noticed a huge spike in search engine traffic. And even though the traffic eventually dipped, it was still much higher than before the update. For example, a few months ago we updated this post, even though it updated that post months ago, that page still gets thirty percent more organic traffic than before the update. And thanks mostly to these constant updates, my site’s overall organic traffic is up twenty four point six percent, which means two hundred and forty nine thousand more people visit my site every year than before. Google makes over three thousand two hundred algorithm updates per year, you can imagine, and twenty twenty a lot is going to change how everyone in the capital. And today I’m going to break down the major changes in SEO for twenty twenty. Now, before we get started, make sure you subscribe to this channel and if you’re on YouTube, click the alert notification. So what’s going to happen in twenty twenty? Well, first of all, according to Jump Shot and Spark tomorrow, forty nine percent of all searches performed on Google will result in a no click. That means almost half of all searches on Google won’t send traffic to any website at all. People either giving up on searches or they’re getting the answers right then and there from Google in twenty twenty. I expect that to increase even more. The second big change is that the number of visitors that people are going to get from organic traffic is going to continue to decline. Sure, it’s being made up at the same time by more people coming online and using Google. But according to Merkel, the total visits produced by organic search fell six percent year over year in Q2 of twenty nineteen. And Mobile was the one that got hit the hardest, where growth dropped by 13 percent in Q1 of twenty nineteen to five percent in Q2 of twenty nineteen. So in two thousand and twenty I would expect the traffic to also go down because that’s a trend that’s been taking place probably not at the same pace, but I would expect it to also go down. The third big change that I see, Google is going to be competing more heavily with Amazon. If you already looked at Shopify, their company’s been on a tear, right. Shopify right now, at least according to the Wall Street, is the Amazon alternative. It’s your own way for anyone to create their own e-commerce store. Google this year already or in twenty nineteen has released a buy on Google feature. Right. This allows people to buy e-commerce products directly on Google. I look forward to twenty twenty in which Google will end up making more changes to compete directly with Amazon. This should also potentially help people who have their own e-commerce stores, such as people on Shopify in which they can generate more sales without people going to their actual website. Now, even with the buying Google Button right now, it’s not perfect. But again, they rolled it out. I bet you over time they’re going to make iterations to make it so good that people don’t even have to go to your website to make any purchases. The for change. More people are going to get the information that they need. The rich snippets. According to a study by Path Interactive on people aged between 13 and 18, a whopping 40 percent get the information they need from a snippet without clicking through. Now, this doesn’t mean that, hey, we’re getting less traffic by Google and they’re evil. Think of it this way. A lot of those people are just looking for the answer. Sure, they could be coming to your website, but it doesn’t mean they’re going to buy anything or become a lead anyways. Now, when you expand that age group from 18 to 30, 20 percent, get what they need from a snippet without clicking through. Some industries have already been disrupted by this trend. Other industries haven’t yet. But Google is going to continue to make more and more changes like this to keep giving people a better experience. For example, with flights, if I put in a flight, no, Google will show me if that flights delayed. If it’s on time, they even have a nice pretty map to go along with it. You’re going to see Google making more changes than in just flights because they’ve had this for a while, whether it’s hotel availability or it’s whether they’re going to continue to expand this into other areas like they have with lyrics and things like that and definitions. So that way people can get what they’re looking for without having to go to site. For example, I’m a big basketball fan, so when I’m looking up the latest scores on, let’s say, the Lakers, I don’t want to go to NBA dotcom. Why can’t I just get my answer on Google? See, I don’t see this as a bad thing. NBA dotcom may get less traffic, but, hey, I’m already watching the TV. I’m already on that television channel looking at the Lakers game or any other sports game, and I’m looking up scores. So when I’m doing this thirty have my attention. But why do I need to keep going to websites? And you’re going to see that you may lose traffic. And sure, sometimes people may not have your attention like the NBA or NFL or any of these sports leagues. But here’s the thing. A lot of the times Google is providing answers to people. A lot of the times are trying to help them out. They’re improving the user experience by them, improving the user experience. Sure, you may get less traffic, but a bigger and better experience, more people are going to be using Google, which should help you get more traffic, be more people also coming online, which also helps you get more traffic and see a lot of those people that Google’s answering the questions for when they land on your website, they’re not buying anything anyways. So what you’ll see a trend in twenty, twenty years. Well, if Google’s answering people’s questions without going to your website, the traffic you are getting should increase in conversion rates as well. I don’t want to end things with you thinking that, hey, Google is evil because they’re not they’re actually a really good company. They even have amazing perks, like giving their employees discounts and money back. It’s. They do things like drive earth friendly car, right, which is nice. So I want to give you five tips to help you with all the changes that Google is about to make. The first tip I have for you is to come a master uncovering search. And look, most marketers are just looking for keywords that they should target. It’s not about keywords. It’s about problems. When someone searches for something, a lot of times they have questions. They’re looking for comparisons. Right. Comparing one business to another to figure out, hey, what product or service should I buy? So you can use Uber suggest for that. Uber suggests we’ll show you all the questions, prepositions and comparisons people are typing and related to your field. This will help you better figure out. And so now that when you’re targeting keywords, it’s not just about traffic, it’s about getting the right traffic so those visitors can be. The second tip I have for you is increase your seat, your write compelling titles. It’s all about getting people to click on your listing. Heck, even if you’re not at the top, it doesn’t mean that you can’t get more clicks than the listing above you. You can do things like creating a compelling title, using keywords in your title that your competition isn’t using, writing amazing meta descriptions that people want to click through and read. You can also use Broadcom markup that helps and you can also use tools like Click Flow that will help you optimize your title tag and they have a free solution as well.
