If you’re a change manager, you know communication is only part of the rollout puzzle. Defining benefits and finding a way to make those benefits a reality is hard work.

However, no effective plan was received that could destroy the entire project. In the same way, you will achieve your goals, and the more changes you make the better.

Give the change a formal address

It’s great to have leaders in your company or organization who have the message to change your future. Sponsoring change will help, but memos and press releases aren’t the most personal contacts.

There’s a reason these details get so much real estate. People hate change, especially when it comes to change. The United States still has World War I firmly in its memory and does not want to pounce on others.

After declaring the need to go to war most of the time, the FDR quickly broadcasts the promise of action (and change).

Very little is said about the internal workings of this announcement. This is the shortest part of this short speech.

Congress and the Army will take care of the details (i.e. change your leadership and sponsors). It has to explain, change, and encourage acceptance (which we will achieve in just a second).

Most important point: understand that this is not a meeting where you present a change plan to all parties. This is an address. Announcing that things are happening and why they should be done.

When the video does its job, your people can understand. But they are concerned about the changes to come. Now is the time to bring everyone under the umbrella of your new initiative (or major transition).
